About

The Scandinavian Networking Group for Trauma and Emergency Management (SCANTEM) is the successor of Nordic Trauma forum (NTF)
The initiative to the Nordic Trauma Forum was taken by a group of participants at the Trauma Care 2002 Congress in Stavanger. A number of medical specialities including surgeons, anaesthesiologists, neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons were represented; as well as nurses with different specialities.

The SCANTEM organisation
SCANTEM is an open, multi speciality, multi professional networking group without formal memberships. The first SCANTEM resource group meeting took place in Copenhagen March 18th-19th 2004. A steering committee was elected
with representatives from all the Nordic countries. Several important subjects were discussed, and a precise definition of the goal/mission of SCANTEM was developed. Since then, there have been several meetings, both open network meetings, meetings within the steering committee, and meetings of the SCANTEM ad hoc working groups.

The Mission of SCANTEM is to improve trauma and emergency management in Scandinavia by...
1. Establishing a multi-disciplinary network for providers of trauma and emergency care.
2. Maintaining a website containing resources and a forum for health care providers, researchers and students.
3. Promoting, initiating and coordinating research on trauma and emergency care.
4. Creating a Scandinavian registry on major trauma.
5. Promoting and providing a Scandinavian model of training and education.
6. Initiating and coordinating consensus processes to develop Scandinavian guidelines for trauma and emergency management.
7. Promoting optimal resource utilization in emergency care within the public health care system.

SCANTEM ad hoc working groups
SCANTEM has initiated two ad hoc working groups:
* Working group on a Scandinavian Major Trauma Outcome Study and Trauma Registry.
* Working group on Scandinavian guidelines for the treatment of massive bleeding following trauma.

The SCANTEM website
